Describe a function and a design boundary
A brief might ask for a card holder inspired by a company’s architectural form or a cable organiser using a recognisable brand motif. State the approximate use environment, desired size range, quantity and any surfaces the object will touch. Provide brand references you are authorised to use. Keep essential functions separate from decorative ideas so the concept can be simplified if a particular detail makes manufacture, finishing or packing difficult.
Move from concept to feasibility
The studio’s concept image helps discuss shape, proportion and branding. It is not a production-ready 3D model, an STL export or an automatic manufacturing instruction. The team still needs to evaluate material, dimensions, stability, finish, assembly and the required quantity. Request a sample or prototype review when appropriate to the project. Keep unknown prices and timing pending; a convincing visual does not establish that the proposed object can be produced exactly as pictured.
A hypothetical desk-object concept
A print house might propose a small desk holder shaped around its client’s geometric brand mark. Compare a simple one-piece form with a more complex version containing separate parts. Ask which design is stable, easy to clean and practical to pack. Pair the chosen concept with a catalogue notebook only if the combination has a useful shared purpose. Present the custom object’s pending cost separately and ask the Brandkom team for a feasibility and quotation review before promising delivery to the client.
Write a prototype evaluation brief
Before commissioning a physical prototype, list the questions it should answer. A desk holder may need checks for stability, comfortable handling, access to the stored objects and consistency of the finish. A packaging trial may need to show whether the object moves during normal handling. Agree which observations would trigger a revision and who will approve it. This makes the prototype a purposeful development step rather than a decorative sample. Record the accepted dimensions and finish so the later quotation refers to the reviewed version of the idea.
Before you move forward
- Define the object’s practical function.
- Separate essential geometry from decorative detail.
- Mark the visual as a concept.
- Confirm feasibility, prototype needs, price and timing with the team.
Common questions
Can the studio export a production-ready STL file?
The supported workflow is concept development and presentation, not automatic STL or engineering-file export. Discuss production files and technical development with the team.
Are custom 3D-printed gifts free?
No. Planning the gift idea is free. Physical prototypes, manufacturing and any associated production work require their own confirmed scope and pricing.
